Public Concentrate
24/7 Unit, 5th year project
The Diamond Exchange District is almost entirely comprised of offices, making this part of town attractive to illicit activities after hours, when most workers leave. Now, city planners have their minds set on transforming this area to a chic and desirable place to hang out during all hours of the day. A perfect place to start is the current location of the DMALL, a failed shopping mall that was built on 1979.
The project is a public facility, situated on the Diamond Exchange District of Ramat Gan, at an important intersection between major arterial roads and train stations. The complex hosts a mix of activities including a farmers market, public pool, student dorms, a pedestrian square, street terraces and a business hotel. Public Concentrate was conceived as a light construction plinth connecting two tall buildings. This perforated plinth lies on the site’s topography in a manner that minimized the use of stairs in order to facilitated and encourage pedestrian movement.
